Accelerator Centre Partners with Institute for Information Industry in Taiwan for EU Market Access Education Program
Expanding into international markets is a pivotal step for startups seeking rapid growth and global recognition. For internationally acclaimed organizations like the Institute for Information Industry (III) in Taiwan, facilitating a path to new markets is a key part of the programming offered to support the startup community.
As experts in global scale and market expansion and as part of our global programming, the Accelerator Centre (AC) was proud to support III and Taiwanese companies to access global market expansion via III’s “G Camp EU Market Immersion Program” delivered in Portugal, aligned with the 2023 Web Summit conference in Lisbon.
In collaboration with III, the AC designed and delivered a customized 1-day bootcamp focused on EU Market Immersion with the aim of providing 8 promising Taiwanese companies invaluable insights and guidance through an intensive program covering various aspects of global market expansion including market penetration strategies, fundraising tactics, and networking opportunities.
The full-day boot camp included interactive sessions with industry experts, investors, and thought leaders.
Companies participating in the program included:
The EU Market Immersion Bootcamp
The event kicked off with an engaging workshop with Bharani Vasudev Setlur, Chief Product Officer at Arts Consolidated, a leading technology company in the performing arts and culture sector. In the session, Bharani shared his vast experience selling into the EU market. In a workshop focused on product market fit, he highlighted why the customer journey and conversations around continuous customer interaction matter most and gave founders a roadmap on how scale is achieved with the right market strategy.
"Great founders experiment over and over and over until they find the right strategy that sticks, and then you work on scaling it,” he says. “This bootcamp with the AC was all about exactly that.”
Bharani’s workshop was followed by a session with AC, CEO Jay Krishnan into the realities of securing investment in today’s economic climate. Jay, known for his astute investment acumen, shared invaluable insights on raising funds in the current economic landscape and his tips for navigating the intricacies of fundraising, particularly in the ever-evolving global economic climate.
"It was great talking to an incredibly diverse set of founders from Taiwan, and talking about raising institutional capital to scale,” says Jay. “The beauty of launching a startup from a geography with a smaller population is that you can scale to international markets from day zero. And this group truly represents that attitude and opportunity."
However, Jay's workshop wasn't just a theoretical exploration of financial strategies; it was a hands-on guide for founders on how VCs work and think. From leveraging innovative funding options to decoding how the investor mindset has changed post covid, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the financial landscape, ensuring they are well-prepared to tackle the challenges of a new market.
“Our International Market Access programs always include in-depth training on investment readiness and the realities of raising in this economic environment because access to capital is the lifeblood of any globally scaling company,” says Krishnan. “The founders in the G Camp EU Market Immersion Program are a shining example of how we can take what we have learned here in the Waterloo innovation ecosystem and share it with the world.”
The workshops concluded with a presentation from Rui Gouveia, CEO at Build Up Labs, providing founders with essential strategies and tips for making the most out of their attendance at the Web Summit Conference, including networking, time management, and follow-up strategies.
After this intensive morning of training and education, the founders enjoyed an extensive tour of the local innovation ecosystem, highlighting the incredible community of global entrepreneurs in Lisbon.
