The Cowan Foundation Makes Donation to the Accelerator Centre to Support Clean Tech Innovation

Waterloo, October 16, 2018 – The Cowan Foundation and The Accelerator Centre are pleased to announce a collaboration to support clean tech innovation. The collaboration will see The Cowan Foundation make a $50,000 donation to the construction of the Accelerator Centre’s clean tech accelerator facility, recently named the TD Sustainable Future Lab (the Lab).

The Lab and adjacent community hub, evolvGREEN, will be located in evolv1, the first-ever Zero Carbon Building – Design certified project by the Canada Green Building Council and will include research activities, academic programming and the startup accelerator.

The Accelerator Centre has a strong history of supporting high growth technology companies and has worked with more than 500 startups throughout its 12-year history. Graduates of The Accelerator Program™ include Canadian success stories Kik Interactive, Mioivsion, Axonify, Alert Labs and SSIMWAVE. The Accelerator Centre has already started to apply its award-winning program model to the cleantech startups through a pilot program supported by the Ontario Trillium Fund and will move this programing into the new facility in December 2018.

“We were very intrigued when we heard about the evolv1 building and the Accelerator Centre’s clean tech initiative”, said Terry Reidel, Executive Director, The Cowan Foundation. “It is clear that this innovative space for new clean tech companies will be instrumental in driving innovation, research and collaboration. Our Foundation believes these concepts are also important in our philanthropic endeavours, therefore we are proud to support the completion of the Lab’s interior space, where entrepreneurs will be provided with the tools to learn, grow and become the next leaders in driving a clean and environmentally sustainable economy.”

Canadians are passionate about improving sustainability.” says Paul Salvini, CEO, Accelerator Centre. “We are excited to have the opportunity to work with organizations like The Cowan Foundation and to pull the community together in support of the entrepreneurs who are the future of our low-carbon economy. The Lab is a bold initiative and we are grateful for The Cowan Foundation’s support in making this ambitious community vision a reality.”
